In the event of
an actual alarm, the system will sound a loud siren or
bell; it may then immediately communicate to a Central
Monitoring Station, and state the nature and exact
location of the emergency so the proper authorities can
be despatched.
Intermittent tone siren or bell
 |
typically indicates that a fire has
been detected |
Steady tone siren or bell
 |
Typically indicates that a burglar
has been detected. |
Your neighbour also has "panic
buttons" that he can use to activate the police
emergency alarms, should the need ever arise.
How You Can Help
If you hear an intermittent tone
siren/bell (fire emergency)
 |
Be aware of your neighbours
fire escape plan and his familys common
meeting point outside the home. |
 |
Help in anyway you can (with
ladders, etc) with the safe evacuation of your
neighbours home. Be aware of which windows,
especially those of small children. |
If you hear continuous
siren/bell (police emergency)
 |
Do not leave your home to go and
investigate |
 |
Look for open doors or broken
windows |
 |
Jot down the description of any
strangers |
 |
Note the colour, make and license
number of any unfamiliar car or truck |
 |
If the sirens stop after sounding
for less than a minute, call your neighbour. He
may have accidentally set off his own alarm |
 |
If the sirens sound for longer than
one minute, call the police |
 |
Never become physically involved |
